Up for bidding is an AWESOME vintage 1980s Betsey Johnson New York dress. I've owned this for years, but having accidently washed this silk/rayon mesh beauty in hot water a few years back, I've worn it only a couple of times for Halloween or other costume occasions, as it shrunk from its original medium sizing (still stretchy, but less so). I originally paid $174 at Union Square's Macy's in San Francisco. I've gained a bit too much over the past couple of years and can't squeeze into in anymore with any dignity. My loss, your gain!

It reads a size medium, but is now a small or xsmall. Very stretchy black dotted mesh with burgundy velvet woven trim with a hint of olive green around the neck. Low and wide squared neckline with bodice, 3/4 length sleeves, and a 4" bottom ruffle topped with the same trim at hem, sans the velvet. The front hem rises to low mid-calf just in the front. Approximate measurements lying flat (please keep in mind it stretches and these are not stretched measurements):

47" shoulder to hem
11" shoulder to bottom of bust-bodice
14" across front, armpit to armpit
15" sleeve
45" around opening at hem
4" ruffle

It has been worn lovingly and often, is clean and has a few minor teeny tiny holes that can be whip-stitched closed without it showing. The fabric is nearly a thick nylon stocking/pantyhose with 1/4" dots, although it does not run like stockings. The woven ribbon trim around neckline, bottom and wrists is quite striking and in excellent condition. The front hem trim, where the hem rises, has been hand-repaired once, and is completely not noticeable. All seams are in very good condition, none coming undone.

I always wore a black silk slip under this beauty. It is PERFECT for a night on the town, especially if it's a Halloween night . . . with a big black witches hat, black boots and fire-red fingernail polish!
