You are bidding on this beautiful, cast iron bank modeled after the very 1st bank in Illinois! Copyright 1970. On the back, this piece says OLD SHAWNEETOWN FIRST BANK IN ILLINOIS, 1816. Below that you can still make out where it says made in Bluford, Illinois. The front of the bank says THIS OLD BANK STILL STANDING IN THE LAND OF LINCOLN WILL HUMBLY ACCEPT YOUR PENNIES BEARING HIS IMAGE. CORNELIUS BERGBOWER 1970! The bottom of the bank has this awesome information: "Early in the history of this Bank, it turned down a loan to the then struggling settlement of Chicago. They thought Chicago was too far away from Shawneetown to ever amount to anything. This novel Bank is made of cast iron. It will not crack or deteriorate with age. Fill it with Lincoln Wheat-Stalk Pennies - they are becoming collector's items - and so will this bank. Designed and made in Illinois, the Land of Lincoln.
