Description

The listing, White candle snuffer has ended.

I have a white candle snuffer up for offer. It is in excellent condition. Hardly used. I bought it when I lived overseas in Europe so I can almost guarantee that you won't find another one like it here in the USA. There is a small star decoration that is hard to see in pictures on the snuffer part. Pretty. If you like, please make a bid. Thanks.

Ty --- I haven't been doing this a month but it's addicting! That's my Minouche in the picture. We lost her just over a year ago -- she was 13. Still fresh and hard to accept and miss her a lot. Will never be another cat like her!

Sorry to hear about your loss. I moved from Europe to America not that long ago and had to live my kitty of 13 years behind. She would not have made the trip well and it was better for her. Although it was hard to find her the right kind of home. She is doing well but I still miss her a lot every day. Also a very one of a kind cat.

Not easy to leave a loving pet even if that pet has to leave you! Where in Europe did you live? I lived in Germany for two years, long time ago.

I was in Holland for 14 years. Came first to Germany because I was in the military. I was only in Germany for a few weeks and was shipped to Holland. I met my husband there and stayed for 14 years. How did you come to be in Germany?

My first husband was in the army, Out of OCS he went to Germany. Was pregnant but joined in in early Jan of '68. Was there for two years. Beautiful country!! In '81 my mom and I took a Globus tour of several countries in Europe. Now, with my husband retired we have two Globus tours planned, but it's put on hold because my 89 year old mother lives with us and she has Alz. and dementia. Can't go anywhere or do anything. Our day will come though! Did you like Holland? I thought it was interesting and one of our tours starts in Amsterdam and will spend three nights there. Can't wait! One of my best friends from school -- her family is from Amsterdam and when her mom passed Joanne and her sister flew to Amsterdam and scattered the ashes over there. Joanne's reall name is Johanna. Would love to spend a few months traveling all over Europe but financially, not possible. Tell me where you lived and did you like it! Getting the travel bug as we speak! ha ha

Sorry about your mom. Getting old is never easy. I loved Holland. The country, the people. It was all beautiful. I lived in a city called Hoogvliet in Holland. It is right outside of Rotterdam. You may have heard of it. They used to have the biggest port in Europe. That's about a 2 hour drive from Amsterdam, although all of Holland is kind of small. You can drive from one end of Holland to another in about 4 hours flat. It is definitely worth seeing. Almost everyone speaks English very well. And they love America and Americans. You should have no problem getting around. If you go in April, you have to go to the Keukenhof. It is a huge (and I mean HUGE) gardens that you can tour. And in April they are full of tulips. People from all over come to see them. Even Japanese. It is pretty amazing. Oh goodness, there is so much to see and do and eat. Poffertjes are delicious. They are a kind of silver dollar pancakes that they sprinkle with powder sugar. Delicious but they have whole restaurants dedicated to serving only poffertjes. And if you go in the winter, they have little kiosks everywhere selling ollie bollies. They are like dumplings (dough balls) but than the size of a fist that they deep fat fry and sprinkle with powder sugar. Also, delicious. They are not so health concusious with their food over there. Lots of meat and potatoes and salt and butter. I loves my food, can you tell. Amsterdam has a lot to do. There are museums and shops and art. Amsterdam is now considered one of the fashion meccas. I guess that I talked (typed) your ears off. I am amazed sometimes as to how many Dutch people there are in America. Hope that you can get to your cruises soon.

Took a tour of Rotterdam, that cute little fishing village and even got to go into that older couple's house to see how they live, then see how cheese was made and got some (too much). We go by tour bus! Was also a wedding going on in a garden and they were soooo nice and wanted us to join them. Still have the little Dutch boy and girl dolls I got in '81. Have all sorts of travel books and souvenier books that I will never part with. In '81 I was dieting and had lost a lot of weight so never tried all the goodies over there, not even a single pastry from Paris. Other people on the tour went overboard eating so much sugary junk that they got sick. The German's do not like Americans still, but when we lived over there we did meet nice people. Before leaving there somebody referred us to a man who paints and we brought over two postcards of Wurzburg to have him do paintings from them. His family treated us like royalty, fed us, had us watch tv and so on. We got two gorgeous paintings (large ones in frames) for $5.00 each. They were amazing!! Unfortunately, when my ex and I divorced he took everything! Finally, last year he came out from El Paso and gave the two boys who where born in Wurzburg each a painting. Real big of him. He's retired army and will be 68, so no matter what I think of him that was the right thing to do. In Germany, remember at Christmastime all the outdoor markets. They were awesome! Still have a few pastel ornaments I got in Wurzburg back in '68. Gee, how did they slip through his fingers!! My favorite place in CA is Solvang, a little dutch/Swedish community with the windmill and good eating places and all sorts of great shops. We moved three hours further away so don't go there anymore. Love that place!! I'm a rambler too, so feel free to ramble anytime! I love talking about Europe!!

Wow! That sounds like a great tour of Rotterdam and Holland. That everyone invited you into their house or to join their wedding, is so very typical of Dutch. The Germans generally do not like Americans (probably has something to do with WW2, I guess) but you do find some sweet people among the rest. We just went back to Holland for a visit in April. My husband got to see friends and family. It had been 3 years since we left and we needed to go back. It was great but way too short. I will be looking into Solvang, CA. There is also a huge Dutch festival called tulip time in Holland, MI. They have traditional dress and music and food. It sounds great. What other places have you seen in Europe? I have been to Spain a lot. I would love to go to Italy and will make it there sometime. My father's side of the family are pure Italians.
