2004 Proof Dollar Thomas Alva Edison Commemorative!!!
The year 2004 marks the 125th anniversary of Thomas Alva Edison's invention of the light bulb.
To honor this event, the US Mint produced the Thomas Alva Edison Commemorative Silver Dollar coins, offered in both proof and uncirculated condition.
Long considered one of the most prolific inventors of history—holding 1093 patents in his name, and having founded 14 companies, including General Electric—Edison’s crowning achievement was his invention of the light bulb. This significance of his life work was captured by the coin. Public Law stated that the coins “shall be emblematic of the light bulb and the many inventions made by Thomas A. Edison throughout his prolific life.”
Size is 38.1 mm round and the composition of the silver one-dollar coins is 90% silver and 10% copper.
Mintage of the Proof Silver Dollar was 211,055.
