Description

The listing, 9 mm pearl earring studs has ended.

This auction is for one pair of 9 mm cultured pearl stud earrings with silvertone backs. Shaft is made of hypo-allergenic rhodium, very comfortable and attractive. Colors are white, peach or mauve. Let me know the color you want.

For everyone who has asked - YES THESE ARE REAL!!

A pearl is formed when the mantle tissue is injured by a parasite, an attack of a fish or another event that damages the external fragile rim of the shell of a molluc shell bivalve or gastropod. In response, the mantle tissue of the mollusk secretes nacre into the pearl sac, a cyst that forms during the healing process. Chemically speaking, this is calcium carbonate and a fibrous protein called conchiolin. As the nacre builds up in layers of minute aragonite tablets, it fills the growing pearl sac and eventually forms a pearl. It is a myth that a grain of sand can cause a pearl to form, as nacre will not adhere to inorganic substances.

Natural pearls are those pearls that are formed in nature, more or less by chance.

Cultured pearls, by contrast, are those in which humans take a helping hand. By actually inserting a tissue graft of a donor oyster, a pearl sac forms, and its inner side precipitates calcium carbonate in the form of nacre.

I switched about 6 months ago from faux diamonds(CZ's) .I stopped wearing real diamonds long ago because I kept loosing them! (lol) , but the faux (I've tried all kinds! ) still get dingy! the plating comes off, or the silver turns copper color or brass, all react to my skin , usually leaving a pretty(not!) greenish black ring on my ears! Lol! I finally discovered I had some pearls like this only mine are flat backs(they grow them against the shell or something flat ) natural pearls. I wear them all of the time 24/7 (at my age I don't have patience to change earrings daily! It's a pain!! Lol! ) these type have been a perfect solution! No muss! No fuss! They look great! Very classic and Chic!(Actually on 2nd look I think yours are flat back too? ) Mine aren't rhodium plated though! That's another plus! Rhodium lasts forever! I highly , highly , recommend these!!

At Kay jewelers these run $149 to $249 with 14Kt studs (but who can see the studs? ) And that is less than $5 worth of gold (yes gold can turn your ears green! It 's a reaction caused by salts and acids in your body Rhodium doesn't do that!)
