Questions & Comments
What is with all the drama on these auctions tonight? Is it a delayed reaction to the red moon? There is not really any "drape" to fleece and it doesn't unravel so the selvedges may not be "stamped". From what I understood her to say, is that the width from selvage to selvage is a yard and a half, which would make the fabric 52 " or so wide and 2 yards or 76" long. It really isn't rocket science. Sheesh!
The selvages are the little blank edges on new and uncut fabric. The width and length of this fabric are confusing, because I have never seen fabric 72" wide. I get the length.
I don't know enough about fabric to explain the length and width. I measured it with a yard stick, and there is actually a little more there than what I said. I rounded down to make it easier. As far as the edges, yes, there are selvages along the 2 yard sides.
It's simple. Look at the side edges on the width of the fabric. They should look different than the fabric. They are to keep the fabric from fraying. Important.
I don't really understand what the confusion is, unless you are trying to make a distinction between the length and width. I'm not a fabric expert. To me, one side is the length, the adjacent side is the width. To you, maybe a specific side is the length and the adjacent side is the width. In that case, we are backwards, and the length is 2 yards and the width 1.5 yards. It's all the same to me. Does that help?
Well, if you sew, you would find the length and width completely different. As I have said..the width edges MUST have the different look. This means that when you sew the cut pattern, it will drape smoothly. If you cut a bias, it will be smooth, and if you cut from the center of the fabric, it will drape smoothly. If you were to take the large panel from a sheer drape, etc., you would have no selvage...or edge/guide to assure that the pattern would drape correctly..especially after washing or dry cleaning. I want the fabric and can bid for it, but I need to know...IS THERE A SELVAGE ON THE WIDTH EDGES???
I have stated multiple times and on more than one of my fabric auctions that I am not a fabric expert. There is no need to treat me like I'm stupid just because you ARE a fabric expert. The little sewing that I do, I do by hand. I am getting rid of things I do not need and will never use. I have done my best to explain what I have, with my limited knowledge. I thought I had been clear. I am sorry that I can't provide you with more information.
You're welcome. I've been sewing for over 40 years, have had my own business for the past 8 years and have sewn everything from wedding gowns, boat cushions, all kinds of pet items, and tons of items out of fleece...so feel free to ask me if you have any questions about any of the fabric that you post and best of luck with this auction. May all the "drama queens" pass you by!
