Um...you know that is a good question. I assumed it was real. How would I tell the difference? Sure don't want to mislead anyone!

usually dyed howlite has pretty even spider web looking tiny veins through it & it has that unatural dyedlook, like its TOO dark too be real or especially if the coloring is all perfectly blue. even the real turquoise is stabilized with resin or else it would be too soft to stand up to long wearing, but the color is not real even unless its the robins egg blue top grade stuff from the sleeping beauty mine & then you know its real cause the price is extremely high. also, the veining in real turquoise is not even or evenly spaced, like howlite will have real tiny veins, but pretty much all the same thickness. hope this helps. im gonna look at the pics more closely, but its still hard to tell about color online, because pictures will look totally different on 2 different computer screens.I clicked all the point boxes for everyones comment to help u all with xp points.

Thank you for all your help. This has me realize that I'm surrounded by things that I am not sure what they actually are. I guess I have taken for granted if someone says something is a certain stone, or gem..then it is! I am going to start looking more closely..lol.

after looking at the pics, I believe these to be real. I can see the uneven fissures in these stones & veining & color are not perfect. That natural look is what makes real turquoise so appealing to me! I love it-plus its my birth stone!!

I used to have several turquoise rings when I was little. Boy I wish I still had those! I know they were real. I had gotten them when we visited an Indian reservation. I was so fascinated by the incredible artwork, beading and jewelry that I didn't want to leave. My grandpa let me pick out a couple of rings so I had something to remember the trip. One was a wolf with little inlaid pieces of turquoise and a red stone of some kind. The other was a circle with paua shell and turquoise. But too many moves and things manage to get lost. Maybe someday I can find some like them again! (Sorry for my rambling..just brought up that memory :) )

This has been bugging me, so I did some research. I can't make any guarantee, since I have no idea what mine it came from or anything, but I think this is real. I did the plastic test, and it wasn't plastic. The veining it is not even and quite random and has a faint sparkle to it like if it were veined with a metal ore or something. The color isn't a really bright blue and varies a bit. I would say from my reading that if is real turquoise it is at the cheaper end of the spectrum due to all the veining. I don't want to mislead anyone, so please view the pictures, read the info and ask questions. If you know of some test that I haven't done, please let me know and I will gladly do it! (Won't break it in half though as that would pretty much make it worthless..lol)
