The listing, Navajo Indian Horse Hair Pottery Turquoise Blue-green Etched Feather Design Sefarina Benally Signed has ended.
Beautiful horse hair pottery designed and hand etched by potter Sefarina Benally, Navajo.
This vase is a combination of traditional “Navajo Etched Pottery” in the contemporary style of horse hair. Native American Pottery comes in all styles and horse hair pottery is very unique as it not only combines the skill of the artist but also the unpredictable forces of nature of the horse hair. The artist starts with a molded ceramic grain pot or wedding water vase and then determines the beauty of the finished piece by permanently penetrating the pot with carbon from the burning horse hair. The artist applies the horse hair by hand and as the fire consumes the horse hair leaving dark lines creating an original piece that will never be duplicated; A lovely addition to your Native American pottery Collection.
In the background that dream catcher pictured in is not real and, also, not included....if you want one they send those little dream catchers for free off and on over the years to friends of the St. Joseph Indian School and I see some listed on Listia now, too. I happened to decorate my dream catcher hoop by wrapping with buffalo fleece that I picked up in South Dakota. They shed it all summer and it does not harm the buffalo in any way.
Good luck!
