Six inch smooth white globes are purplish-red above ground and white below. Best when harvested at 3-4”, but will retain good quality until quite large.
Purple Top has a mild, fine-grained white flesh.
Turnips are a high energy and protein feed that can survive and provide feed even when buried in snow.
Deer and livestock can feed all winter on the roots.
Seed anytime May through August.
Sowing mid summer through early fall is best for winter grazing. Forage turnips will grow best in cool weather.
