Did you have to treat the scutes in any way? We got a 8 and a 10 footer Saturday night. I'm learning how to tan the hides myself and we're talking the hands and feet to a taxidermist. I'm looking for ideas for other usable parts of the carcass.

Yes you have to place the scutes in lime and water. Let them soak for a few weeks. The smell is horrible, but you drain and wash them after they have soaked. I place mine in another solution to make them smell better as well as whiten them up. I use salon peroxide and water.
