Pearl Ex creates a metallic look without being a metal. The particles are flat platelets with two surfaces, therefore it lays down beautifully like a thin coating of metal. The different particle sizes produce different looks — from a fine, smooth, pearly luster to a highly metallic sheen.

so is this more metallic or more glittery?

Hi There,

This definitely still produces a metallic finish but it has more sparkle than a flat metallic. The sparkle is there but it's fine - not like a large glitter - reminds me a bit of some boat or car finishes that have that fine metallic sparkle...

Hi There,

It depends on your application. If you are wanting to use this as an embossing powder for example, you would mix it with clear embossing powder, stamp with embossing ink, apply powder, and heat set. Basically, Pearl Ex is pure mica pigments with no added ingredients or binders, so the powder will take on the properties of whatever you mix it into; i.e., acrylic paint, glue, clay, resin, etc. If you need to heat set your medium, then you can heat set it with the Pearl Ex in it as usual. If you do not need to heat set your medium, you can just mix the Pearl Ex in and use it as you normally would use the medium. Pearl Ex is heat fast to 600 degrees and some colors even higher than that so it can be fused with glass, etc., etc.
