The genus [Helenium] is thought to have been named by Linnaeus for Helen of Troy. The legend is that the flowers sprung up from the ground where her tears fell.
These flowers are commonly used in large borders, and are quite vibrant. The blooms last into October, and are very attractive to bees and butterflies.
