The desert willow tree's hot-pink to lavender blossoms are gorgeous and fragrant.They're named for their willow-like foliage, desert willows are one of the preferred trees for drought-prone climates.
The desert willow (Chilopsis linearis) is not a member of the willow family. They're classified in the bignonia family, a group that also includes a variety of trumpet trees, flowers and vines. The name willow cane about because the leaves of the tree closely resemble the leaves of common willow trees.
This can be grown as a tree or bush. As a tree, it can grow 15 to 25 feet high over a course of many years.
These plants do well in zones 7-9. However will toerate zone 6 if minimum temperatures range only between minus 10 to 10 degrees. The tree cannot survive colder temperatures.
