•Vintage item from the 1930s

A vintage reverse carved glass pin with a luminous carved flower. This style of pin is sometimes called "goofus glass" and is created by carving an image into glass and then painting it, giving the image a three-dimensional effect. This pin is rectangular with docked corners. Decorative gold tone frame. The glass is domed and beveled at the edges. The painted flower, resembling a cornflower, is pink and set against a backdrop of mother of pearl. Secures with a pin and "c" clasp.

You are welcome, Cammy! I had never heard the name before either! I read these pieces should not be restored or repainted, collectors want them "as is" . The glass ware, is the earliest form of" Carnival " glass known. The big companies produced glassware (and jewelry) in great quantity in the early 1900's , to there was a bit of a glut, So to help sell the glass they gave much of it out (Starter pieces) and these were painted, because coloring glass was expensive in those days! And the painted pieces sold well!

Ahhh, very interesting!! Thanks for sharing :) I seen one like this one, except it had a different flower, otherwise the same type of brooch, and they are selling it for $65.00. I would have kept this one, as I think it is gorgeous, but I just never wear any brooches.
