Released from Virgin Records, hip drug and dub monologist Jeffrey "Chate" Liles returns with this CD, made on Heiress Aesthetic with his studio posse, the Decadent Dub Team. Gritty social observations backed by a lazy beat make up the bulk of the disc. Liles' nonchalant delivery and prose-poem word arrangement make each cut rise above the sensationalist references to dope and excessive behavior. His pieces become telling and entertaining vignettes of the urban subculture's existential dislocation. A few tracks toward the end feature full instrumentation. Lacking the same sly and honest oral delivery as the other pieces, these exist separately as bonus rock tracks. ~ Tom Schulte
