This device boasts the ability to give drivers another hands-free solution to their “talk-while-you-drive” cell phone needs. The Jupiter Jack plugs into your cell to transmit a call through your car’s FM radio waves. In those states where it is still legal to talk on the cell while you cruise along, it provides a tempting alternative to the speakerphone function or a Bluetooth device. But did it pass our test?

The Jupiter Jack, which sell online at select retail stores for around $19.99, comes simply packaged with everything you need to plug-in and go. The unit comes equipped with a CR2032 battery (installed), six adapters, an instruction manual, and a quick-start guide. There was also literature for a dashboard mount (not included) and replacement battery orders.

This unit is as simple as it gets. Simply open the package, find the adapter that fits the headphone jack of your cell phone (some phones may be plugged directly into the Jupiter Jack), and power on the unit. Once your car radio is on, it can be tuned to 99.3 FM (make sure the sliding button on the Jupiter Jack is also set to 99.3.) You are now ready to make calls.

In the rare case that 99.3 doesn’t pick up a clear signal for your phone, there is also the option of tuning to 101.3 and sliding the tune button accordingly. Make calls as usual, without the need to use the speakerphone function on your cell. The call can be heard through the radio speakers and the caller can hear you through the Jupiter Jack’s microphone. Once the call is over, just end it as you normally would without having to unplug your cell from the Jupiter Jack.
