Description

The listing, Rose Of Sharon Fancy "Double Flower" Seeds 50++ has ended.

These seeds are for several different colors and varities of Rose Of Sharon. These photos are off the internet (and most closely resemble the varities I collected!!), I didn't have my camera with me when i collected the seeds right outside Mountain View Arkansas on the Sylamore Creek. The camground we stayed at had the most gorgeous Rose Of Sharon varieties I have ever seen! There were white and pink "double flower" like the fancy looking ones pictured (I've never seen anything like them before!), and there were the more standard white with red centers, gorgeous purple (much deeper shade then the ones I have at home), different shades of Fuschia, even blue! I didn't know they came in blue but I found the pictures easily on the internet so I wasn't losing my mind after all! :)

Winning bidder gets way over 50 of the seeds, they're all mixed up (I only had one baggie with me to put them in. I collected a ton of the blue and the fuscia and the white, also got some of the fancy double blooms but not as many of those.
Evidently these do better in partial shade, mine are in full sun and wilt on hot days, now I know they tolerate partial shade too. The ones at the campground were in the shade of a large tree part of the day. So I'm planting mine in a different spot next time.

I always give an extra bonus and shipping is always free! You won't be disapointed! As a bonus, you'll take your choice of many different seeds. At auction end I'll give you a list and you let me know your favorite!

sorry, thought I had answered. I'd ship internationally, if bids go over 700 I'll even ship to Canada free. If not, it's actual shipping minus the 67 cents I normally spend shipping in the US.

Shipping wouldn't be much and the bonus will more then make it worth your while! You can choose between some of my other seeds as your bonus, or I will double the number of Rose Of sharon like I did in the last auction.

If you mean do you have to germinate the seed, I don't think so, but you can google and find out for sure.

I haven't tried to grow any from seed, my shrubs were here when I moved in. Judging from the stuff I found online, it takes awhile for the seed to start growing but sounds like everyone sewed them directly into the soil, some put them in the freezer overnight first to kill bugs.

I googled it myself since everyone seems to have questions, and here are a few answers from others that have grown them from seed.
"I have a pink and a white althea (Rose of Sharon). I have planted both types of seed, and have found that the pink germinates more readily. This may or may not be because the white Rose of Sharon is less mature than the pink. I seem to have a low germination rate, but this may be because I planted too early in the Fall. I would plant now so that your Rose of Sharon will be large enough to plant outside in the Spring."

"I would wait until the seed pods are dry and brown (not yet if her bushes are similar to yours). Then collect the seeds and try winter sowing (see the forum). I would think trying to keep a seedling alive all winter inside is next to impossible--and certainly not worth the bother if you can just throw it outside in a container and wait for it to germinate itself."

"No worries on the Rose-of-Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus), as "docmom" says, they can come out your ears! In my germination of this species, I have always sowed it outside in soil early in the year.
In 2003, I winter-sowed some on 12Mar03, and they germ'd 04May (53 dys)with LOTS!!! & this 26Feb05, they germ'd on 07Apr (40dys)"

"Good question, RBBMWM3. I was glad to learn that ROS is easy and quick to grow from seed. When I was collecting seeds for winter sowing, small bugs flew out of the partially opened seed pods, and I wondered if they might have affected the viability of the seed. I posted a question on the Winter Sowing forum and was advised to put the seeds in the freezer for a couple of days to destroy eggs the bugs may have laid. Apparently it's some kind of weevil that likes ROS and hollyhock. I was told they don't harm the seed, but who wants to go back later at planting time and see little bitty worms. Double Yuck!!"
