How is your climate there. We have very humid summers and sometimes our winters can be very harsh and these plants thrive here. They're quite easy to maintain I have done some research on them and found out they're in the cacti family.

they're perennials, The one I have now I dug up from my mother's yard a couple of years ago.

These plants seem to thrive in really any type of climate, it just depends on the climate. We have really harsh humid summers with temps 100+ and winters with temps sometimes reaching -10 so it all depends. they do great here.
