The listing, 10K DIAMOND WEDDING BAND has ended.
Size 6, 10K yellow gold with 3 small diamonds. Marking "10KT -S".
Please do not ask for me to lower days or for a GIN. ***I enjoy the bidding process. I start my items low and know that people who enjoy auctions as much as I do, will bid according to the product offered. I recycle shipping material. I abide by Listia 7 day rules. Non-smoking and pet friendly.
Sometimes the "S" means Sterling & the 10K would be gold plated over sterling. You can test with a magnet & if it sticks, there's other metal in or under the gold ;-)
Just for your protection once the buyer gets this the mRk means 10 kt- s is 10 kArat gold over sterling silver . Which is called vermeil and is quiet expensive but just not as much as gold . Also a magnet will not stick to silver either thanks just didn't want someone to file claim on you once they tested . On some the s would be the makers mArk but in this case that is spelled out .
I'm not a jeweler and I presume you are. So, I wrote down the exact way it is marked and everyone should read the description before bidding. I bought it as gold; I guess I was dooped †
Vellmar is a registered trademark of the Norvell-Marcum company and is only used for their high end Jewelry, they are one of the few companies that actually use KT as the carat mark, most only use the k, the 10k - s does not stand for gold over silver, since that would be illegal in the US and this is a US based Company, the -s is the production code for that design. All Jewelry manufactured or imported for sale in the US must have the predominant metal mark first, if the base is sterling silver, it must be marked 925 and can have a mark of 10k also, but only if there is actual solid 10k present on the piece, for example a leaf or heart, if the gold present is a plating it must be marked as follows 1/10 10k or 1/2010k indicating the amount of 10k gold present by weight of the jewelry piece. And no, gold filled will not test as gold, nor will vermeil, unless you have no clue on how to properly use an acid test, old rolled gold pieces (antique and vintage) sometimes will give a positive test, the reason for this is the manufacturing process, it is not a plating, it is an actual sheet of gold heat fused to a sheet of non precious metal usually brass, that is why you often get Verdi gris on old pieces, a green mold looking speckling. I have been a Jeweler for over 30 years.
You are not dumb at all ! There are just crooked people in this world . I use to trade jewelry a lot pawn shop owner is how I know jewelry . Just didn't want someone to come back on you if they had it tested . This is the next best thing to gold and will actually test as gold on the surface and they would have to actually scratch the surface to get a good reading thanks
Please...... I have been corrected by a "jeweler". They state that the "10K -S" stands for gold over silver. I have never seen the mark before, so I really don't know. So, please..... I bought as gold (dumb me)..... Use your own common sense when bidding. Read the Markings.
