Is this a stand-alone game, or do you have to have the orginal Sims to be able to play?

This is a stand alone game and not an expansion .No need to have any other sims games in order to play.

I was at work when I checked and had forgotten the disk so the postmaster could weigh it ...this is not a regular sized DVD case and they charge by the oz plus I would have to get different packaging and this fits perfectly into a small flat rate box....I am sorry but till I can figure it all out I will not ship to Canada
