is this downloadable to the computer? I mean, can I record my voice, and then download to the computer.

Yes, it is usb compatible. It will require the right usb cord to match. I'm not sure what the port size is called but it is like a blackberry port to usb

How well does it pick up a persons voice?

The closer the recorder is to its subject, the better it picks up. I have used it in interviews and it picks up quite well but in classrooms or auditoriums, it should be placed close to the podium.

See if your teacher/professor will allow you to place this close to them. It picks up better if the unit is close to the voice.
