you get one of the original batch of these photos i just had developed. i took this with a nikon digital camera on a recent visit to new hampshire in late may 2014. these are rare and only live up to 7 days & produce only one generation in this area per year.these are also endangered in most areas. this i thought was a great shot showing its true beauty. these are one of the largest moths in north america and this photo shows the nice contrast of color.
i believe this is a male because of the bushier antenna. it also was a large specimen with a wing span of just over 5" and just over 5" tall.
