These are fresh 2014 seeds from a honey locust tree in my yard. If you love the smell of honeysuckle, you will LOVE this tree, it has a heavenly scent of honeysuckle flowers.

You can look up how to plant and care for this tree online, but I will share what Ive learned and some facts about this tree below.

For planting these and for faster germination, I always soak the seeds at first in hot/warm water and let soak for 24 hours before planting. I've had 100% germination when I soak seeds first. It only takes 1-2 weeks to sprout when I do it this way.

Honey Locust Tree care & facts:
The honey locust is an attractive, broadleaf tree with leaves similar to acacia or mimosa trees. It has wonderful honeysuckle fragrant flowers in the spring. Its a fast-growing tree that can grow to 20-25 feet in 6-7 years, and reach a total height of 70 feet. They are great shade trees & hardy, tolerating drought and pollution well. Grass can be easily grown underneath it as during the summer it casts a filtered light through its leaves.
Very drought tolerant and do well in most soils. For planting, space 20 to 30 feet apart, as the trees do grow rapidly.
The scientific name is Gleditsia triacanthos inermis. It is a deciduous, perennial tree & native to North America. The honey locust tree has a wide canopy and this helps grass to grow in its shade. It has a rapid growth rate and lives up to an average age of 100 years & can survive even with moderate irrigation in case there is less rainfall. Full sun or in a partly shady climate.

Hardiness planting zones 4-9

Tree Problems

While not bothered by many pests, leaf hoppers, leaf galls and spider mites are all potential problems for honey locust trees. However, one of the worst problems of is web worms. Left unchecked they are capable of defoliating a tree. Cankers, which are caused by fungi, will cause areas of stems to die but this normally only happens to trees that are either injured or stressed.
