Oz never imagined things would get so bad when his mom marries a controlling, brutal man soon after his father's death. He is mean and abusive to Oz when his mom isn’t around and sweet and caring towards him when she is. But even that didn't prepare Oz for being framed for drug possession. His mom just stands by and looks on as he is abducted and taken away to Briarwood School, which is really a prison. Now, cut off from the rest of the world, on an island in the middle of an alligator infested swamp with no way off, he and the other prisoners are subjected to vicious punishments with no hope of escape.
