Chinese wolfberry contains many vitamins, minerals, proteins, essential and nonessential amino acids and fats. Traditional Chinese uses of the berry include improvement of eyesight, kidneys, liver, blood and lungs. Additionally, many Chinese practitioners claim the berry can prolong life. Currently available clinical evidence does not support these traditional uses of the Chinese wolfberry
How to Take Wolfberries: The traditional preparation method for the wolfberry is to boil the berries in hot water. After boiling the berries for approximately five minutes, you will consume the beverage eating any wolfberries that have not dissolved in the water. You also can eat the Chinese wolfberry in its raw form.
Growing:
Container: Sow thinly in a light-weight sterilized soil mix. Cover twice seeds’ thickness with soil. Press firmly and water. Keep evenly moist but not soggy. As seedling appear, gradually expose to direct light. When large enough to handle, transplant to pots. Harden by gradual exposure to outdoor conditions. After springs frosts, transplant to garden 12 – 36” apart.
Direct: After spring frosts, sow thinly in rows 12 – 36” apart; then cover 3 times their diameter with soil. Think to 8 – 20” apart.
