Description

The listing, Rare, USPS, Hologram Frame, With 25 Cent Postage From 1989 Issued Stationary Envelope has ended.

The postage frame in this auction is from the 1989 25¢ Space Station envelope that was the first U.S. issue to feature a holographic image.

Here is a little history on postage marked envelopes for you philately nuts out there:

Stamped envelopes, postal cards and aerograms are collectively known as postal stationery. The defining characteristic of most postal stationery is that the items are imprinted with stamp designs with full postage value. The imprinted stamp, therefore, pays the amount that is shown by the denomination, so it is not necessary to buy a stamp if the envelope is to be used for mailing and is current.

Stamped envelopes are sold at post offices for a slight premium over the postage value, to pay for the additional costs associated with the envelope. Postal stationery items share many characteristics with postage stamps, and they can be collected in much the same way.

Collectors can choose to save mint or postally used examples of postal stationery, or they can save postal stationery as first-day covers.

Because they often bear pictorial design elements, postal stationery items can be important additions to topical or thematic collections as well.

The first four hologram issues from the United States were created from two different designs. A space station scene appeared three times: on envelopes issued in 1989 (with a 25¢ value imprint), 1992 (29¢) and 1995 (32¢).

Again, this auction is for a frame cut from the original postal envelope that this was issued as part of. Holograms have always blown me away as a kid especially but, this stamped item is one of the coolest items ever to contain a hologram imho. If you should have any questions about this item, do not hesitate to ask. I will get back with you soon. Thanks for looking!
