The listing, GORGEOUS TURQUOISE NECKLACE has ended.
I am offering a gorgeous 16 inch long turquoise necklace. I won this from another lovely Listia member. I am under the impression this is dyed howlite due to the fact i did not make this and cannot vouch for it's authenticity. It is a lovely piece of jewelry. Thank you for stopping by!
Questions & Comments
I agree it is lovely, but yes, dyed howlite or faux turquoise.
I get so aggravated when I see jewelry that is said to be a certain thing and then it is not. I try very hard to be as honest as possible because I would not like to be duped either. Thank you so much for stopping by!
Dyed Howlite can look like turquoise but instead of 'black' lines they are brown because of the dye.... this piece looks more like marble....not veined like turquoise is.
Hopefully the origial seller did not know it was faux. it can be hard to tell the difference, i have been fooled before too. this is a lovely piece and i will watch the bidding....good luck
The same "mistake" happens with watches- ---on the back of the band it will say "leather" and when you look closely - it's a tissue thin piece of real leather sewn on to just the back of the band- while the band itself is a leather looking plastic. It's the watch company that's deceptive- and of coarse technically what the word is written IS leather! ==so it's legal...The dyed beads are marked as dyed- in a store- but the watch bands are intended to deceive. Thus I'm skeptical when someone on listia say leather band ( I got one like that - but I doubt if she realized it)-- -unless it's and expensive watch...
It seems today most everything is made as cheaply as possible and with deceptive wording so that people will purchase more and more of that item. Nothing is made like it used to be.
Oh good, finally a person who knows their jewelry. I have got a couple things er that were plated not silver. Either the person was not.in the know or intentionally.misleading. I've learned.to look at ads and pics carefully.. thanks for such a nice auction. Watching
Funny you should say this. The other day I took a piece of jewelry to my jewelers. It was stamped 10kt. Guess what? It wasn't! My jeweler told me jokingly that he could stamp 14 kt on my head but that doesn't mean I am 14 kt!
