If that is your picture you have great dreadlocks. The stitch in this particular hat causes the hat not to drape well for long heavy hair. I might be able to do the same stitch in a thinner weight yarn so that it would drape better. I'll check it out. What about just a regular knit stitch like in the grey beanie, that's a little better for a deep hat?
