I know this worked with my 3G iPod but couldn't say about the new one. It messed up, my daughter was playing with it and threw it in the water. I ended up getting an iPad and the dock is only built for iPods :(

But it plays FM Radio, has an alarm clock that has 2 different wake settings, in case you had someone else who used this and needed an alarm set for a different time and even has a nap feature.

I really liked this dock when I used it but it is no use just sitting around. Will offer FREE shipping but I'm gonna list this for a 10 day auction because I'm doing one auction that is costing me quite a bit and with school starting school will be taking alot of my money to get my daughter back in for the school year. So please understand. I cannot go down on the days because of this.

is the seat a cradle, or just a flat surface so i can connect my ipad?

My ad details clearly states "dock is only build for iPods" If it was able to connect to iPad I'd keep it for myself. So yes it is a cradle on for iPods and not a flat surface like is needed for iPads.

I don't know much about the iHome but I do believe they are similar. No scratches, I've only used it a few times. I actually used my husbands iPod Nano I think its the 2nd gen one i put it on the doc and the ipod charged and played the music that is on his iPod through this ipod doc and it charges it while you play music off the ipod. All the buttons still work. I checked it all out while I was at it so I would know that everything still worked. I even set the alarm and it worked fine as well as the nap alarm feature. Everything is still in working order.

I am not really sure? Maybe someone else can answer that. All I know is that it worked on The 3 Gen iPod I don't see why not but I am sorry I cannot answer that.
