Description

The listing, Yummy! PAPAYA SEEDS! Grow your own and save the major expense! FREE SHIPPING! has ended.

Do you LOVE papaya like I do? They are a delicious fruit! I adore it with lime juice - the key limes make them especially delicious (see my key lime seed auction too). If you DO love them, then you know how ridiculously expensive they are in the stores! Geeze ~ one fruit can cost $5.00 or more!

Here's your chance to grow your own orchard! This auction is for 25 seeds.

They germinate easily and quickly in potting soil, and grow rapidly. Keep them moist, but not wet. You'll have papayas soon! I like to stagger mine, so I have a regular crop.

The seeds themselves can also be eaten - generally used in salad dressings, as they have a peppery flavor. They actually look a bit like peppercorns.

Papayas are great for the digestive system and if you are constipated these are natural laxatives

Papayas are a storehouse of health benefits - too much to list, but see here: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid= 47

These plants cannot grow up here in Pa. can they ? I would have to keep it in a big pot so I could bring it in come winter time or is it a tree ? I am interested. I have a green thumb--I guess I'll have to look into this...

They are more of a tropical fruit, though you might be able to have some success in a greenhouse. They will not tolerate frost at all.

Oh, and yes it is a tree. Generally they just flower and fruit at the top, they start with a single stalk, although I've got one that has three limbs now, and each of them fruit.

I start them in pots, and then plant them directly in the ground. Yes, they are susceptible to frost if you cover them they could survive. The one I have now is only about8' tall and producing, they can get much taller though.
