Description
The listing, Handmade Mini Pine Needle Basket has ended.
This is a mini pine needle basket which I coiled using longleaf pine needles and linen thread. It is only 2 1/4 inches by 2 1/4 inches. It takes considerable time to make these as I am changing threads as I create the basket design.
This is a typical native american design, no particular tribe. I actually create my own designs.
It will come with the little lucite holder so you can display it.
Questions & Comments
Very nice =) I make pine needle baskets also but without the thread. I am Native and I was taught by my grandmother. She left the needles exposed so the only stitches that were visible were the ones holding the coils together. Yours is very beautiful. New fan =)
Yes, I used to do mine that way too, I have Cherokee background and started making my baskets more like the southwestern Indians do in Arizona, New Mexico as I lived there for a long time. I make very large ones with intricate patterns, however, the smaller ones are almost as hard to do and take considerable time.
It's really nice that you are keeping this tradition alive! It looks like you have put a lot of work into this great little basket! My great grandmother made crocheted rag rugs out of fabric from old clothes. I have one of them & it makes me think fondly of her.. I love looking at the colors & patterns throughout, sort of tells a story. I would really love to learn how to make them too.
