You’ve probably seen them along streets and in parks; they’re chosen for both their beauty and durability. Golden Raintree is amongst the splashiest of spring bloomers with its late butter-yellow flowers, one of the few to show this color. Sporting a neat, rounded crown with upward-reaching branches and a spreading habit, the leaves open as burnished copper and turn to deep green. Golden Raintree will be happiest in loose, well-drained soil (alkaline is OK), and once it’s established, will tolerate drought, heat, wind and air pollution. In the fall, Golden Raintrees display charming 2” golden seed pods that resemble miniature Chinese lanterns. A fast grower, it will produce shade quickly and is ideal as a stand-out focal point for smaller lawns. Zones 5-9.
