does it still recognize it even after it punctures a hole in the top after the first use?

yes. It is reading the outter white ring part if the top.

I returned my 2.0 coffeemaker cause i couldnt use my old kcups. how did you get the lids off the newer kcups? i tried but mine were unuseable when i finally did get them off!!!

Get the sharpest knife u have. turn the pod on its side and start sawing at it right below the top - get as close as you can and it slices off easily
