yes but iphone 3 and iphone 4 are different from each other, as in the side buttons, speaker and camera area etc. which was this made for?

This is like a protective slip. It completely cover the phone. There are no holes for a camera or buttons. Cases clip on. This is a cover.

i think it would be consider a case because the covers have the slots for the buttons and camera. cases come in clip on and non clip on. thanks for clarifying
