Old brass elephant hotel service bell. Solid brass. Part of my grandmother's old collection. Stands about 6 inches with bell and 5 inches long.

How old would you estimate this elephant to be? Most likely made in India; Did your Grandmother travel there?

She had a lot of brass elephants from India. Not sure how old it is but she passed away 3 years ago at the age of 92.

The reason I asked whether it works is because the picture shows the part you tap as bottomed out and I don't see how by tapping it that it could go any lower to strike the bell. So when you tap it it does in fact ring; correct?

In the photo the metal hook piece is not put through the metal thing that rings the side of the bell. It just slides in a hole on top. It is hooked up and working now.
