Nothing (other than a thin layer of clothing) can go in between the baby and the seat or the baby and the straps, or around any of the straps. If you cannot fit the straps to the baby, remove the baby without loosening the straps, put this on the baby, and strap the baby back in without loosening the straps, then it is too bulky. In the event of an accident, snowsuits compress, leaving too much space between the baby and the straps.

You are correct on the test but this is not bulky and I did not have gaps with the car seat. It does depend on the size of your baby.

These are actually not safe at all to use in a carseat, but are perfect for use in strollers, bouncers, swings, or even just every day use. :)

Hi, the 2013 Consumer Reports article states that if any clothing items (coats, hoodies, layers) that leave a gap in the harness strap because of bulkiness, it would be unsafe, as does many reports. This isn't bulky. The harness strap can be tightened to the baby's body according to the general safety rules.

Can you tell me the unsafe part of it that you're referring to?
