Book #1:

- “Happiness Sold Separately” by: Lolly Winston

Summary:
Elinor Mackey has always done the right things in the right order-college, law school, career, marriage—but now everything's going wrong. After two painful years of trying, Elinor has learned that she can't have children. All the doctors can tell her is that it's probably because of her age. As she turns forty, she withdraws into an interior world of heartbreak.

Elinor's loving husband, Ted, a successful podiatrist, has always done the right thing, too. Then he meets the wrong woman at the wrong time, and does the wrong thing. Ted's lover, Gina—a beautiful and kindhearted nutritionist—always eats the right thing, but is unlucky in love and always falls for the wrong men. Soon Ted has to fight to make everything right again.

Can Elinor and Ted's marriage be saved? The answer is alarmingly fresh and unexpected as New York Times bestselling author Lolly Winston introduces us to characters as memorable as those of Anne Tyler and Nick Hornby, but who are indelibly all her own.

Book #3:

- “Otherwise Engaged” by: Suzanne Finnamore

Summary:
When Michael pops the question, Eve is deliriously happy. She tells grocery clerks. She subscribes to bridal magazines. She delights in the rainbows that shower from the one-carat ( okay, .81-carat ) ring on her hand. For two days.

"Otherwise Engaged" is Suzanne Finnamore's wickedly funny account of an intelligent, rational woman's transformation into the bundle of anxieties that is the bride-to-be. While the cumulative stresses of ordering invitations, finding a dress, and organizing the Perfect Honeymoon fry Eve's nerves, the very real prospect of being with one man for the rest of her days reverberates through her consiciousness like a Chinese gong. The sight of Michael's discarded socks on the floor makes her realize, "Suddenly, a sock on the floor is not just a sock on the floor. It is a sock on the floor for the rest of my life." Uproarious, insightful, tender, "Otherwise Engaged" dashes our soap-bubble fantasies in favor of a hilariously realistic walk to the altar where man and woman enter into marriage with their eyes wide open.

Book #4:

- “Breaking Her Fall” by: Stephen Goodwin

Summary:
On a ordinary summer night, Tucker Jones picks up the phone, expecting to hear from his fourteen-year-old daughter Kat. Instead it's another parent, who reports that Kat is not, as promised, at the movies, but at a party - and makes a shocking allegation about her activities there. Furious, Tucker races to the party to find Kat already departed. But his interrogation of the teenage boys still present doesn't end until one of them crashes into a glass tabletop. In a second, Tucker's rage turns to remorse. Soon he is under arrest. He could easily lose his home and his business. But, most importantly, will he lose his daughter?

"Breaking Her Fall" charts the passage of a family through an all-too-imaginable crisis with extraordinary realism and transcendent grace.

Book #5:

- “River Angel” by: A. Manette Ansay

Summary:
A novel named River Angel featuring a character named Gabriel and a town called Ambient lays its cards on the table from the get-go: in her fourth book, A. Manette Ansay is obviously going to feature faith in a big way. As in her previous fiction, Ansay sets this tale in rural Wisconsin, but unlike her earlier work, which focused primarily on individual families, she has widened her scope to encompass an entire community. The story begins when 10-year-old Gabriel Carpenter comes to live with his aunt in Ambient, Wisconsin. An ungainly, unlovely child, Gabriel is shunned by other children and finds solace in a faith in God that verges on the fanatical. He has heard stories from his father about an angel that supposedly guards the banks of the Onion River and starts searching for it--a search that ultimately brings him to the wrong place at the wrong time and thus to the wrong angel--death.

What would have been simple tragedy in another town or another novel becomes the stuff of wonder in Ansay's Ambient: Gabriel's body is found miles from where he died, smelling faintly of flowers and glowing with an otherworldly light. From this point on, the novel focuses on how the various townspeople react to this supposed miracle. The town priest, Gabriel's teacher, the woman in whose barn his body was found--soon just about everybody in Ambient has been drawn into the conundrum of what Gabriel Carpenter's life and death really mean. As a study of human relationships and a meditation on the nature of the divine, River Angel succeeds on both counts.

Book #6:

- “Sister” by: A. Manette Ansay

Summary:
"When my brother disappeared in 1984, I began to see myself in the third person, as if my life were a story being told to someone else."

Abigail Schiller lives a seemingly normal childhood in a rural Catholic commuinity in Wisconsin. But that life is shattered when her younger brother, Sam, vanishes at the age of seventeen, fleeing their father's rigid rules of masculinity and the violence their mother denies. Finally, thirty years old and expecting a child of her own, Abby is determined to retrace her lost sibling's dark descent—embarking upon an emotional journey that will test the strength of her spirit, and contradict everything, she once believed about her family and herself.

A stunning work of rare poignance and unsettling power, A. Manette Ansay's Sister marks the literary maturation of a truly exceptional voice in contemporary American fiction. Deftly spinning triumph out of tragedy, the award-winning author of Vinegar Hill offers us a fresh understanding, of family, memory, faith.
