Crusade Against Cancer
One of the earliest-known descriptions and treatments for cancer dates back to 1600 B.C. in Egypt. The treatment at the time was a form of cauterization that used a tool called the “fire drill.”

Advanced understanding of molecular and cellular biology have greatly improved the treatments for cancer, especially since President Richard Nixon declared “War on Cancer” on 1971. Since that time, the U.S. has invested more than $200 billion in cancer research, with funds also coming from the public and private sectors and several foundations.
