This is an old "Trivet"..if you notice it is in the shape of an Iron (For Ironing) and the ladies would lay the hot Iron down when they wanted to rest from thier labors or as they were hanging up the freshly ironed clothing. It prevented the Iron from burning anything as in those days an Irons WHOLE BODY was heated over an actual fire before pressing clothing! It could also still be used today for an iron OR a pot nearby the stove :) It looks like it is made of brass to me! Great auction msandram,watching!
