Want him to put on my shelf with my 2 Beautiful Black Barbies! Maybe I'll give him to my mom too! When I was in 5th grade I was the only girl of my friends that had bi racial Barbies bc my mom found black "Brad" on a clearance table n got him for me, well for my white Barbie! When she got home I asked if she'd got a Ken for my Barbie like I'd asked for. She said. "I got Barbie a much better looking and manlier man than Ken!" So my Barbie had a black boyfriend!
I didn't really notice just how cool my mom was until I was an adult. I asked if she had picked Black Brad for my white Barbie for a reason? She replied, "Honey, it was the time of sexual revolution & the fight for civil rights. I just didn't want your Barbie to grow up to be a racist!"

We were not taught hate growing up. My grandfather was a saxophone player. He loved jazz n u can't love jazz n hate black people bc they invented jazz. My g'pa played w black musicians in jazz bands. He played gigs n hung out rehearsing n smoking pot way back before pot was illegal, back then only jazz musicians were smoking pot n hangin' out jamming. My grandma told me they got some flack from racist haters bc I guess a white man playing n jammin w black musicians was not common, or accepted) They were excluded from certain social functions my grandparents wouldn't have gone to anyway!! My grandpa taught me about Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Billie Holiday. He got me a 20 disc complete collection of Bessie Smith's recordings. When my g'pa was in hospital dying, I drove from Phoenix to Tucson like a bat out of hell w a boombox n Dizzy Gillespie cds to get there in time so my g'pa could die listening to his beloved jazz music! The only one my g'pa hated was Elvis Presley! He blamed him for rock n roll n the death of jazz music n subsequent downfall of American society!! That was my moms dad. Racism is far from gone but all of us, all races, all people have been scientifically traced miochondrially back to one black woman in central Africa. We ALL come from Africa n we all come from black! Life's too short to waste it hating each other. I've only got time for love...n I LOVE U MistyMiss!!

My mom had 2 different black santas when I was growing up. She always said beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
We had many santas from all over the world in many types of "Santa suits" and in many colors.
She always told us that race isn't a deciding factor of friendship and I said I wanted to grow up to have blue, purple and pokka dotted friends. Guess what I do! Really my bestie is purple with blue dots. Lol
