The listing, VANILLA BEAN ORCHID VINE CUTTING aka Vanilla planifolia has ended.

True source of the vanilla bean. Climbing,fleshy vine that supports itself on host plants with aerial roots. If growing inside, will attach to walls. Part shade to deep shade and will not tolerate any frost. Thrives in humid, hot climate with consistant rainfall. Mine grows best in West facing window and just mist with a spray bottle every other day or so. Will grow up 100 ft but mine have never grown that much and I've had these orchids for 5+ years. I usually do not even mist it and it's happy, just make sure it is watered well and do not let dry out. I accidently just broke off a 4" piece and thought instead of starting another one, why not put on Lista! These orchids can be very pricy so this is a great deal! If this does well with high credits, I will auction more off this fall.
I've also experimented turning an aquarium into a terrarium with these vines in it and it did wonderful, also if you have a place in your bathroom, the steam and humidity will really make this rock. Flowers are fragrant but you do have to hand pollinate to produce the vanilla beans. Vine has 2 nodes for successful planting. Vine will be shipped in small damp amount of orchid soil and shipped small flat rate box.

I missed your post...sorry Cathandra. I use orchid soil mixed with other good potting mixture. Add the right amount of light and water with an orchid food did the trick.

Hi Cathandra, Yes, these vines are beautiful and how I wish I move where the weather stays warmer longer! When i first started growing this vine, I had no idea if it would make it here in Pennsylvania and i used to move it around the house alot trying to find a place where it would be happy and the west facing window is where it took right off. The soil mixture and watering it often makes a difference also.

i am on a special diet as is my son due to health issues. i just got a new cookbook that has recipes calling for vanilla beans, goodness, small town iowa-no where to buy them, but this would be a long term option-oh i don't have many points-i do have hope though

Never give up hope Elaine! The town..well whole area I live, no one seems to be interested in fruiting tropical plants! I have tried for years but no one is interested and to me, that is a shame so I am expanding on the internet but it is so costly!
