Questions & Comments
This is one of the last four commemorative Crowns created by Great Britian. Similar to the IKE "Silver Dollar" these were meant to be coins that were bought and given away. The four coins are the 1951 Festival, 1953 Coronation, 1960 Circulated Crown and lastly was the 1965 Churchhill. With the change in 1970 to Decimal the British continued with trying to do 25 Pence coins about the same size of the Crown but there just wasn't the interest in buying large coins and so there were only four of the 25 Pence made. Charles and Diana's wedding was one of those. The Royal Mint then started making commemoratives using the 50 Pence coin and placed them into circulation as well as made them available in sets. Best of Luck with your auction.
