they were plugged in when we bought the place. We kept them plugged in for about 4 months then unplugged them and they have been in the closet. We haven't had any problems or have seen any critters.

They were plugged in here when we bought the place, I kept them plugged in about 3 months after we moved in then they have been in the closet since. I do have to admit, I haven't seen anything running around in here. Good luck
