Shamyhafezian, before 1989, Germany was separated into two different countries. One was known as West Germany, and was a democracy. The other was East Germany, and was Communist, controlled by the Communist government in Russia. No one who lived in either country could cross into the other side, even if you had family living there. There was virtually no communication between the two, either by phone or mail. In fact, there was a heavily guarded, electric fence separating the two. Additionally, because the main city of Berlin was in Communist East Germany, and the West German government wanted their share of business and industry profits that could be won from Berlin, the two governments agreed to separate the city of Berlin as well, with another wall, known as the Berlin Wall. It went up around 1960, and many people were caught off guard, and wound up being trapped, like parents who dropped off their kids at daycare before going to work across town, etc. Of course this all changed in 1989 when the Berlin Wall was torn down, and the majority of the Communist government fell, except for China, Cuba, and North Korea. So, yes, the item could be marked with W. Germany, for West Germany. How's that for a history lesson? :)
