Okay, since reading your comment, I've done some research. Even called a friend from the police department. From what I have gathered NO winter coat is safe to wear in the car, even for children in a regular seat belt. They advise to put the coat on backwards, over the belt to stay warm. Second, fleece and like materials, are the safest to use in the car, as the do not compress like a fluffy winter coat. They recommend (and so do I) to test the seat like this... 1) put your child into the bunting and tighten the straps as you do any other time and buckle the child. 2.) Take your child out of the car seat, remove bunting, and place your child back into the seat without adjusting the straps. Do the pinch test on the straps if you can "pinch up" slack on the straps DO NOT USE in the car seat. As with any item you buy any where, buyer assumes ALL responsibility in however they choose to use this item. And thank you, I hadn't given it a thought until you commented to be honest. Brandy
