Alabama Sales Tax Token

Obverse: ALABAMA STATE DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE
Reverse: SALES TAX TOKEN

NOTE - I am including two other tokens in this auction. These are a one cent and a five cent token from Missouri . So there are 3 tokens altogether.

These tokens were issued by various states during the Great Depression of the 1930's.
They were issued to make change for fractions of a cent for customers to pay the new state sales taxes. Most states stopped making them in 1935.

The following states issued them: Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah, and Washington.
