Description

The listing, Blowfish Fruit has ended.

Fun, interesting, spiky & yummy ~ seems a natural at playing an alien fruit. Cucumis metuliferus appeared in Star Trek: DS 9 as “Golana Melon”. Kiwano, aka African horned cucumber/melon, jelly melon, hedged gourd, melano, blowfish fruit is an annual vine in the cucumber/melon family. Its interior is as unusual as its exterior. A fully ripe kiwano has an orange rind w/ prominent spikes. Though it is an annual & will grow in most any region, you'll need a long season or hothouse to actually get a bearing vine.

Ripe fruit has as jelly-like flesh, tart w/ a hint of sweetness. Fruit can be eaten raw or cooked, green or ripe. When eaten green, they taste & smell very much like cucumber. I like them peeled & salted, but some ppl sweeten them w/ sugar. Ripe, it's like a combination of banana, cucumber & lemon. Scoop out w/ a spoon. Low in calories, high in Vitamin c, fruit is very refreshing!

I had much fun growing these! They took Florida heat so well & needed very little care. I will grow these again just for the surprised looks I get when someone sees them for the first time.

BEWARE ROSE SEEDS! There's GOOD reasons why rose seeds AREN'T sold in big garden centers. More info; http://goo.gl/0UJZry
Beware home collected seeds from hybrid plants. They're no longer the same variety. Ask questions. Research >reliable< sources.
Beware! "GREEN" bell peppers are UNRIPE bell peppers & aren't likely to provide VIABLE seeds. Very few varieties ripen to green. Same for GREEN Jalapeno & most other pepper varieties. It only take minutes to check the variety & discover the color of the RIPE pepper.
Beware "Bonsai" seeds are misleading! http://www.bonsai4me.com/Basics/Basics_Seeds.html
