Tank you. I read a friend's trade paperback a few years after the series came out, and in a collectors frenzy took a few months to track down first printings of all four issues.

While "The Cult" was always my favorite Batman story (and which I just auctioned off a week or so ago), "Dark Knight Returns", as the title implies, started the return of Batman from his campy 60s TV characterization to his darker early days - and did a very good job of it, too.

my favorite BATMANS are the marshall rodger run in the mid seventies, great art, great steve englehart stories.....the story where the joker wants to taint the gotham city water supply and make all the fish have a joker smile is priceless...now thats insanity
