I'm not sure what a "Cat's Meow Village" the buildings seem to be pretty, but are the sets made of paper?

The buildings are all made of solid blocks of wood, painted (or printed I suspect) and very detailed. I don't know too much about them. All the ones I've acquired seem to be from early 90s and some late 80s. They have a website, and appear to still be churning out these collections at an average of $16 a building.
