The listing, 1960 Topps #20 ROY FACE (Pittsburgh Pirates) has ended.
This is an original vintage 1960 Topps #20 ROY FACE baseball card.
Roy Face may not be a household name, but his impact has been long-lasting. One of baseball's earliest relief aces, Roy led the league in saves 3 times and finished 2nd in saves another 3, retiring #2 all time in saves behind Hall of Famer Hoyt Wilhelm. He holds the National League record for most games won as a relief pitcher (96 of his 104 career wins were earned in relief), and he holds an impressive record for highest winning percentage in a season, with an 18-1 record (.957) in 1959. He won his first 17 decisions that season, and his last 5 in 1958, giving him 22 consecutive wins, 2nd all-time to Hall of Famer Carl Hubbell. His 802 games pitched with a single club was a Major League record until 2007, when it was broken by Trevor Hoffman. He earned a World Series ring with the Pirates in 1960, and played in 6 All Star games.
Card is pictured. No creases but some vintage wear. Not bad for a free 55 year old card of a star player.
